Packing Tips!

Are you already stressing about packing for 33 days?  No sweat, we are opening up this section of the blog for you to post tips to your friends.  Tell everyone if you know something we should know!

Here are a few from the staff!
  • Purell 3 in 1 sheets are wonderful!  Put a few in a ziplock and you don't have to worry about detergent.
  • Quarters....having a few set aside in your suit case for laundry will make it easier when it is time to wash.
  • Don't forget shoes for white water rafting. Rainbows don't work well, you need something that will stay on your feet.  Crocks with heels, Sperries, Keens, or even cheap water shoes work great too (cause then you can throw them away).
  • Large Ziplocks, garment sized, make great storage for dirty or wet clothes.
  • Don't forget you are in charge of transporting your suitcase :)  Make sure you can!
  • Also, leave a little room in there for future purchases!
These are just a few things that we thought of, if you think of any questions, don't hesitate to post a question on here or our Facebook page!  We will help in anyway we can!

Meet Your Chaperones

Over 15 years of Expereince!

Glenn Jordan - Tour Director

Upon returning from each of my seven stints with The Grand Western Tour, I never failed to realize that I'd just lived one of the most positive stretches of the year. Thanks to all of you for making round eight possible, my fourth as tour director.

I've spent 20 years teaching middle school, the past 15 at Western Rockingham Middle School. Over the years, I've taught seventh and eighth grade social studies, math and science. I also coach track and field.

I enjoy long, daily walks with my 82-pound pit bull and a yellow lab, tipping the scales around 110. I also enjoy history, music, politics, sports and gazing at Kansas wheat fields through a bus window, but not always in that order. Once again, thanks and I look forward to the summer.

Kristen Edwards - Chaperone

I can't wait to begin my 5th summer traveling with the Grand Western Tour!  I look forward to meeting and getting to know you all!
I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2003 and have just completed my 8th year of teaching.  I have taught in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina for 6 of those years.  While in Pilot Mountain, I have helped create a middle school and high school girls soccer program.

I enjoy watching and competing in sports, being outside, and playing with my dogs!

Sarah Buchanan - Chaperone

Sarah enjoyed her first summer as a chaperone in 2009, and is thrilled to be returning to the staff this summer!  She can hardly wait to begin her second trip!

Randy Gunter - Chaperone

Randall began his journey with Grand Western Tour last year, and is very excited to be returning for his second summer!  He graduated from James Madison University in 1990 with a BBA in Business Administration. He has just completed his eleventh year teaching for Patrick County Schools in Virginia. During that time, he has taught U.S. History, Civics, and 6th-7th grade math. Randall is also a sponsor of the Woolwine Junior Beta Club.
In his spare time, Randall enjoys traveling, fishing, attending live music events and photography.
