Our first morning on the ranch we loaded up and drove into the Galliton National Forrest to check out a piece of Montana history.
Over 50 years ago the land surrounding the Hepkin River Basin was used for recreation and camping. One night, 52 years ago, after a massive earthquake the shape of the land around the river basin changed forever. Because of the earthquake, a massive chunk of the a mountain came tumbling down in a matter of seconds displacing air, water and land. After the mountain collapsed, the river was blocked and a lake was formed.
